MAJOR PURCHASING FUNCTIONS

The major functions of Purchasing are Production Purchasing, Non-Production Purchasing, and Supplier Technical Assistance.

Production Purchasing

Production Purchasing purchases parts and materials needed to manufacture vehicles. Suppliers are an integral part of our business, and our success is interdependent with theirs. We rely on more than 2,000 production suppliers to provide many of these parts. Examples include brake linings, headlights, powertrain parts, and raw materials such as steel, plastic, and coatings. The main groupings for parts and materials are as follows:

Production Purchasing sub-groups include:
  • Commodity Purchasing develops commodity strategies that guide sourcing decisions and work with suppliers and product teams achieve quality, cost, and technology objectives and deliver vehicles that exceed consumer expectations.
  • Program Purchasing is comprised of program managers, project managers, and project analysts and is the focal point for vehicle lines to coordinate all Purchasing issues.
  • Ford Customer Service Division Purchasing is a function within Marketing Sales & Service responsible for the procurement of aftermarket vehicle parts.
